Granula Granola Granula Granola!!!
Granula with a U was the invention of Dr. James Jackon in 1863 at his Santiarium where people went to get healthy. Kellogg’s began making it as well but called it Granola with an O to avoid lawsuits and trademark issues. But it wasn’t until the 1950 that it became very popular and things boomed in the 60s as it became the iconic food of the hippy.
The original name comes from the Latin word for ‘granula’ which is granule and meant small grains. Often confused with Meusli – the Swiss form of granola. The difference is that granola is baked, where as Meusli is not, which is why it tastes like wood shavings. 🙂 – well that’s my opinion hehe.
