Three Saggy or Three Saggi

I was sitting in a NYC bar recently.  A great Italian wine bar and as I was sipping my favorite pinot grigio, a waiter came up to the bar and asked for three glasses of the “TRE SAGGY”.   At first, I wondered three what?  Then I realized he wanted the “TRE SAGGI”  The bartender corrected the new servers pronouciation with a cute quip and gave him the wine.

“Tre Saggi” means three wisemen in Italian and and SAGGI sounds like SAGE with a long EE sound at the end.  Not Tre SAGGY like my mother’s back end (she always complains to me about that).
