Word of the Day – Bunny Chow
Bunny Chow? Say what? NO it’s not food that Bugs Bunny would like, but a South African fast food dish. It’s a hollowed out loaf of bread that is filled with vegetable or meat curry – the bread is used as a container. Bunny refers to the Indian caste of the people who invented it. Members of the Banias, an occupational caste, settled around Durban in the 1940s and invented it most likely as a means to serve curry.
